Neurological impairments and the resulting mental disorders are important threats to human health. Among them, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, Parkinson’s disease, stroke and drug abuse harm in various way the mental and nervous systems of people of all ages. However, due to the complex pathogenesis of these diseases, current treatments have limited efficacy. The clinical use of herbal medicines to treat the above diseases has a long history, and thus, these medicines provide new opportunities for new drug research and development with the goal of improving clinical efficacy. It is of great significance to further study the mechanisms of action of herbal medicines in relation to neurological impairments and related mental disorders and to evaluate their clinical efficacy.
This issue explores the mechanisms of herbal medicines in the prevention and treatment of neurological impairments and related mental disorders, with specific emphasis on cognitive impairment, depression, drug abuse, etc. We welcome clinical and basic studies on the effects of herbal medicines, their active substances, and other natural products on neurological impairments and related mental disorders, or the development of novel herbal drugs. Clinical reports on the use of herbal medicines in the treatment of the above-mentioned diseases are also invited for this special issue.
This collection is open to all herbal medicines, and we welcome submissions with themes including but not limited to:
1. Basic original studies on the underlying mechanisms of herbal medicines for managing neurological impairments and related mental disorders.
2. Clinical studies providing evidence of the effectiveness of herbal medicines and other natural products for managing the noted conditions.
3. Reviews of research progress and underlying mechanisms of herbal medicines in the treatment of the noted conditions.
4. Meta-analyses of the efficacy of herbal medicines for treatment of the noted conditions.
